Welcome to the School Library!
Students may check out a book of their choice. Kinder, first, and second grade classes will come to the library once a week for a lesson and check out time. Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade will come to the library every other week.
How many books students are allowed:
Kindergarten and First– 1 book (Kindergarten leave the books in their classrooms)
Second and Third Grades – 2 books (Third graders can checkout up to 3 if needed)
Fourth and Fifth Grade – 3 books
All library books are due 2 weeks after the date they are checked out. Students must return at least one book during the following library class in order to get a new book. Students are also welcome to ask their teacher to visit the library during open times for book return and check out as needed. There are no late fines for overdue books, but please encourage you child to
return the books on time. Lost or damaged books must be paid for by the responsible student. Please do not try to mend library books at home. Any library books accidentally damaged should be sent back to the school library for repair.
Have fun reading and discussing the book with your child. Remind your child about book care and keeping books safe in their backpacks when not being read.
We have special events throughout the school year that may include: author/ illustrator visits, Austin Public Library ArtSmart Cultural Programs, APL Literature Live show, St. Elmo Literacy Night, book fairs, and Read-a-Thon.
Thank you for your support of the school library! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. I’m excited for a new year and to share books with your child!
